Community
Following the example of Christ, who come to serve and not to be served (Mark 10:45), members of St. Mark's Episcopal Church seeks to be active participants in the community through outreach and service.
The following groups at St. Mark's Episcopal Church are involved in our community outreach and other community programs:
ST. MARK'S STITCHERS
The St. Mark’s Stitchers has several active members who provide handmade prayer shawls and lap blankets for the sick, homebound, and nursing home residents of the community. They also provide hats for school-age children. All are welcome to participate, regardless of level of experience.
SCHOOL OUTREACH
St. Mark’s continues a strong historical partnership with local schools supporting medical and clothing needs for students as identified by school personnel. Other school outreach programs include an annual scholarship, donations to the Backpack Program, assistance to school lunch programs in Fannin County, Georgia and Polk County, Tennessee.
FOOD BANK OUTREACH
St. Mark’s donates to Feed Fannin, a Food Bank in Fannin County, Georgia that provides free groceries to families and individuals in need.
PRIEST DISCRETIONARY ACCOUNT
Once a month, the weekly collection is added to the priest's discretionary account for financial outreach in the community. For support, please contact our priest directly at erik@stmarkscopperhill.org
ANGEL TREE
St. Mark’s provides Christmas Angel gifts to residents of the local nursing home.
YOUTH OUTREACH
St. Mark’s sponsored an Episcopal Youth Corp member and her missionary trip to England and sponsored two underprivileged youth to Grace Camp, a summer camp, for one week.
GENERAL OUTREACH
St. Mark’s made donations to the Red Cross for the Gatlinburg fires and donations to the Episcopal Relief and Development Fund.
COMMUNITY MEAL
St. Mark’s provides and prepares a free, nutritious meal for the community at large six times annually. Average meals served number between 140-200. Budget allocated is $250 per meal with desert donations by church members. Menus are planned, executed, and served by St. Mark’s volunteers. Host for the Community Meal Program is Copperhill Methodist Church.
